KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THESE FEMALE RAPPERS AT SXSW 2024

SXSW 2024 is a week away. Rather than sifting through the site’s extensive list of artists, here’s a field guide to some of the most unmissable rap acts by women who will be at the internationally recognized festival this year.

While it would be ideal to see each of the 42 artists included in this playlist, Off Radar narrowed down seven sets to keep your radar.

1. Flo Milli: The Alabama-born rapper not only creates catchy raps that earned her the Longest Streak at No.1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 Chart, but she also delivers an incredible live performance. Even during a thunderstorm during C23’s 2023 nearly rained-out SXSW showcase, the rising star demonstrated what “Flo Milli shit” is all about as she confidently danced with the audience and bounced on stage as she spit some of her most beloved raps.

One of the most highly anticipated acts this year, Flo Milli is a headliner at the Rolling Stone Future of Music show. On March 14, her set is at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre and is available to the public.

2. Lola Brooke: Since she received recognition for her “2017 Flow” freestyle video, Lola Brooke has graced the rap scene with her street-influenced sounds and flow nostalgic of hip-hop’s golden age. After releasing high-traction singles for the past six years, the Brooklyn-born rapper dropped her first album Dennis Daughter, a display of her sound and features collaborations with some of the big names like French Montana, Coi Leray, and Bryson Tiller. Check out Lola Brooke’s return to SXSW on March 12, at ACL Live at the Moody Theatre.

3. Kari Faux: Resilient, raucous, and loud, it’s no wonder that the Little Rock artist has made a name for herself in the world of rap. Kari Faux’s tracks infiltrate HBO’s Insecure and vocals appear on Childish Gambino’s beloved album, Awaken My Love. On March 14 and 15, the multifaceted artist will shake SXSW’s stages with her rhymes and sultry harmonies.

4. Mama Duke: With Austin Hip-Hop Awards and Austin Music Awards under her belt, the first queer, bi-racial, and masculine presenting woman on the cover of the Austin Chronicle has certainly made a lasting imprint on the city. Her music – apparent with cocky lyrics and chilled beats in “Found A Way” and “Mad” – is timelessly cool and undoubtedly suited for the SXSW stage on March 17 at the Iron Bear.

5. Erica Banks: Rather than dancing along to popular party tune “Buss It” at one of Austin’s many bars, watch the Texas rapper perform live at Revival Coffee on March 15.

6. Blakchyl: With mellow, whispery vocals and effervescent beats, the East Austin rapper is set to entrance at Revival Coffee on March 13.

7. Blasian B3: With roots in a city known for its country music, the Nashville artist still found her voice as a rapper. Radiating with confidence and swagger, “Big Tippa” and “3Loud” are undeniable party tunes sure to make a great set at her March 16 set at Vaquero Taquero.
